About UGUISUAN
UGUISUAN Atelier is the studio of Japanese arts and crafts artist Minoru Makioka.
At UGUISUAN, unique works are created by hand using a variety of materials found in nature, including stone, earth, and plants, incorporating traditional techniques and craftsmanship.
The name UGUISUAN was inspired by the Japanese bush warbler, or “uguisu” (鶯), a bird that visits the studio in spring. The word “an” (庵) refers to a small, simple dwelling or retreat away from the secular world. It evokes a Japanese aesthetic of simplicity and depth, resonant with the traditions of Zen and wabi-sabi.
